About Us

The Highland Primary Care Network (Highland PCN) provides primary care services to our growing communities, with member clinics in Airdrie, Crossfield, Carstairs, Didsbury, and surrounding areas. With a total of 24 medical homes, 71 family doctors, and our health team members serving over 74,000 patients from those communities and surrounding areas.

Our primary focus is to support your family doctor in your Medical Home which is the place where you should feel the most comfortable going for all your health needs.

Our History

Alberta’s PCNs arose from the 2003 to 2011 trilateral Master Agreement between the Alberta Medical Association (AMA), AH, and AHS. Schedule G of the agreement outlined the trilateral Primary Care Initiative and described the formation of local primary care initiatives in which a group of family physicians (in a not-for-profit corporation [NPC]) formed a legal agreement with the regional health authority (now AHS) to provide a set of primary care services targeted to the local needs of a defined population of patients.

Local primary care initiatives were later rebranded as PCNs. The first PCN “went live” in May 2005.

There are 41 PCNs operating throughout Alberta with more than 3,800 family physicians, and more than 1,400 other health practitioners. At any given time there are hundreds of PCN family doctors accepting new patients. Research shows that patients who regularly visit a family doctor are healthier and live longer.

Our Vision

In April (2017) the Board and Governance Committee re-crafted a vision for the organization.

Driven by innovation and a passion for a high quality of life, we deliver integrated and seamless transitions of care, by a team of Healthcare Providers who are known in the hearts and minds of our patients. Partnerships are the key to our success. Our PCN will be an outstanding example within the Calgary Zone and to other PCNs in Alberta.
