Health Improvement Program



The Health Improvement Program (HIP) is designed to guide patients who are ready to improve their quality of life. With the support of qualified health care professionals, patients can learn about the importance of sleep, stress management, mental wellness, self-acceptance, goal setting, fueling the body and enjoyable movement. HPCN and community resources will be shared to support patients in their lifestyle change.

 

 

Health Foundations

Health foundations class is the initial step in the HPCN's all-new Health Improvement Program (HIP). Most people have a pretty good idea how to improve their health. Health foundations looks at what gets in the way. We explore topics of sleep habits, stress, self-acceptance, goal setting, fuelling the body and enjoyable movement. Highland Primary Care Network and community resources will be shared so you can decide how to best manage your care going forward. Even a very small step can create big change.



Happiness Basics

Happiness Basics is a 4 part empowering program that explores the science behind what makes people happy. Happiness is a state of mind that must be chosen and reinforced with action on a daily basis. This workshop has been shown to improve mood, vitality and energy, as well as physical and mental health. Happiness Basics is for adults aged 18 and over. Each class lasts around two hours (a total of 8 hours) and teaches participants 13 practical skills they can use to live a happier life. This program is not suitable for people who suffer from severe anxiety, depression or suicidal thoughts or are in the midst of a personal crisis.



Mindful Eating

Join an HPCN registered dietitian and learn how to improve your relationship to food and eating by looking at things differently. In Mindful Eating you will learn some introductory steps to part ways with unnecessary food rules and make food fun and enjoyable again.

Moving Away from Stress

This 1.5 hour class will review facts about stress, the impact of stress on our health and steps toward change. This is a discussion focused group where we will talk about strategies to minimize the impact of stress in our lives as well as learn from one another. Some of the material we will cover includes problem-solving, cognitive restructuring, mindfulness, resilience and social support.



Sleep Essentials

In this class we provides information about sleep facts, medication and sleep habits. We will look at lifestyle behaviours and how relaxation and cognitive strategies can aid in improving our sleep.


Weight Management: The Myths and The Truths

Feel "weighed down" with your weight loss goals? Leave the weight loss treadmill behind you for good. During this class we focus on the common myths and misconceptions around weight loss. Discover the lifestyle strategies that work to uncover the healthiest version of you.


What's for Supper?

Is "what's for supper," a dreaded question in your home? Life is so busy, let's try to make it easier. Join an HPCN registered dietitian to discover some simple strategies to get a balanced dinner on the table. This hands-on class will focus on getting started with meal planning and simplifying those confusing food labels. Feel free to bring your tricky nutrition questions, labels, or favourite family recipes to share and discuss.
