HIP Group Summary

New and Innovative, the Health Improvement Program (HIP) guides individuals who are ready to take their health into their own hands and improve the quality of their life through attending groups.

You will be called with a reminder 1-2 days before your group and if your group is virtual you will be provided with a meeting ID and password.

Health Foundations

We recommend you view Health Foundations an introductory video about Highland PCN’s Health Improvement Program (HIP). Most people have a pretty good idea of how to improve their health. Health foundations class looks at what gets in the way. We explore the topics of sleep habits, stress, self-acceptance, goal setting, fueling the body, and enjoyable movement. Highland PCN and community resources will be shared so you can decide how to best manage your care going forward. Remember, even a very small step can create a big change.

ABCDs of Digestion (Abdominal Pain, Bloating, Constipation, and Diarrhea)

In this two-hour group, you will learn how diet and lifestyle choices can help you manage your IBS or IBS-like symptoms  (abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, and diarrhea.)  


Anxiety to Calm (4 Weeks) 

Is Anxiety stopping you from doing your day to day activities and living your best life?   Join us for a 4 week workshop (approximately 1.5-2 hours/week)  to learn skills to find calm, challenge yourself and your thinking and live well.

Blood Pressure and Cholesterol Essentials

This 2 hours group focuses on reducing your cardiovascular risk by covering the following topics:

  • What is artery disease, hypertension, and high cholesterol, and what are the risk factors?
  • How do we reduce blood pressure and cholesterol levels?
  • Why is exercise important and what kind is beneficial?
  • Heart Healthy eating and how to eat to lower your blood pressure
  • Reading food labels

DBT Informed Skills Group

Are you interested in learning new coping skills and understanding why you struggle with the things you do? This 10-week DBT (Dialectical Behavioural Therapy) informed group is for adults (18+) to help you gain skills to change patterns in behaviours, emotions, and thoughts related to problems in your life that cause conflict and distress. Topics will include mindfulness, distress tolerance, emotional regulation, and interpersonal effectiveness. Each week will build on the previous weeks’ topics and skills. Please be sure you can attend all 10 weeks.

Diabetes Basics 

In this 2 hour group,  learn about the lifestyle changes people with Type 2 diabetes can make to have a better quality of life and prevent and delay complications.  You will learn about healthy eating, as well as how to keep active and overcome challenges. 


Grief Bites 

Coping with the loss of someone is one of life’s toughest challenges. Although a normal reaction to loss, grief can feel overwhelming and affect daily activity. You don’t have to navigate these challenges alone. Join us for a 2 hour group with a few strategies to help with the grieving process and learn about programs going on throughout the province.

A four-week workshop (approximately 1.5-2 hours/week) to uncover the healthiest version of themselves. Participants will set small manageable goals and practice skills to make long-lasting behavior changes. Graduates of the program report eating better, being more active, and having a more positive outlook.

Managing Anxiety and Stress

Did you know that how you think about your anxiety and stress matters? In this 2 hour group,  learn practical strategies to help reduce your anxiety and use your stress response to meet your goals. Some of the material we will cover includes problem-solving, challenging our thinking, mindfulness, and resiliency.


Shedding the Weight (3 Weeks)

Are you a person who struggles with their eating habits?  Learn how to identify your triggers and strategies for creating new balanced habits.  This practical, skill-based approach will help you to understand why we eat the way we do. This is a 3-week workshop (1.5  2hr session/week). Please be sure you can attend all 3 weeks.
